Juliana for Bijoux Terner Jewelry

In his book Memoirs of a Fashion Jewelry Manufacturer on page 125 Mr DeLizza says: "The best thing of 1975 was that a company called Bijoux Terner started up business.  They were the most wonderful thing that could have happened to our business.  Mr. Terner had come up with the concept of local showrooms in major cities, having customers come in with shopping baskets, pick the items they liked, and just check them out.  He did not need a sales force as most of the other wholesalers did at that time."

It important to note that this is not the same business model that Bijoux Terner used in later years after D&E was out of business.  That model was started in 1997 and was $10 for all items with kiosks in the airports and later in cruise ships and casinos.  You will notice the price tags on the Bijoux Terner that D&E made was much more expensive than that.  There are price tags on the jewelry from Mr DeLizza that are well over $100. In todays money $100 would be over $475.  The variety of jewelry they sold to Bijoux Terner was fabulous.  From the beaded set shown first, to the HUGE orange dangle earrings (at almost 4 inches long), to the more familiar all rhinestone earrings shown last.  But those earrings are also a little unusual in their size at over 2 inches across.

Juliana Enamel Jewelry

Cream and Brown Brooch
Chapter Nine of Mr DeLizza's book Memoirs of a Fashion Jewelry Manufacturer is for the 1971-1973 time period and deals with:  Belt Displays; Plastic Stones; Enamel and Epoxy; Fifth Avenue Boutique.  On page 112 of that chapter Mr DeLizza says: "We hired a new young designer, Alma Davis, to try and breath some new life into a waning business.  She was suppose to be good with enamel and epoxy."  He also talk in other places in that chapter about some of the different enamel, epoxy and painted items they made.

Yellow, Green & Red Heart
There are examples of some of the epoxy, painted and enamel pieces in my book Juliana Jewelry -The Last Generation.  In this blog we will show just a few of these types of pieces that where in Mr DeLizza's Factory Collection.  I am sure there are many more examples that have not been found yet.  Maybe someone reading this will be the first to find more.

Juliana for Les Bernard Jewelry

Leaf and Acorn Set
Mr DeLizza in his book in the 1974-1977 Chapter says: "Another great person that came along at that time was Yvette Brownstein from Les Bernard.  They had the license for the TV hit Dynasty and it brought a great deal of attention to the jewelry industry."  Then again in the 1980-1984 Chapter it says:"The buyer from Les Bernard worked to find items she could use from our line - then change them enough to make them compatible with their line."  These are just a couple of the many different references Mr DeLizza makes to Les Bernard in his book.  They were an excellent customer for quite a number of years.  It is important to know that not all Les Bernard was made by Juliana.

Juliana Colorful Rhinestone Jewelry

Clear and Blue Chapel Cap
In Mr. DeLizza's collection was quite a bit of rhinestone forward jewelry.  That is not surprising as Juliana was always a rhinestone based company.  In his book Mr. DeLizza talks about how in 1967-1968 time frame the look was getting away from big glitzy rhinestone designs.  He said that the company worked on trying to incorporate stones in a way that customers would be drawn to. He felt they did a great job but it was never as well received from his traditional clients has he had hoped.  They did find new customers for these new lines.

He then says that in the 1982 time frame rhinestones started to make a come back and many old time customers came back.  However finding interesting rhinestones to work with was harder.  These rhinestone pieces span the full time period of Juliana Jewelry.

JudyJudyJudy by Juliana Jewelry From Mr DeLizza's Collection

Cameo Necklace
Colorful Set
This blog begins in 1978 when Mr DeLizza's daughter Judy came to work full time with the company.  During that time they made a new line of jewelry called JudyJudyJudy.  Judy worked for D and E for about 10 years and was a big part in the design of the jewelry.  In 1988 Judy wanted to stay home and raise children. The pressures of running the factory while Mr DeLizza was traveling in Europe or at the jewelry shows was just too much for her.  Mr DeLizza says at the time it was the hardest decision she had ever made. Looking back he said it was the best for our family and the grandchildren.

Juliana Sea Life Jewelry from Mr DeLizza's Collection

Sea Life Caged Rhinestones and Cabochons
The much of the sea life jewelry was all made from the same plastic sea horses, and star fish, along with beads and metal charms.   Another very creative use of these same charms was to frame them with metal so they could be chained end to end.  These designs were done in a ton of colors of which I only have a few.  One of the sea life charm necklace is shown in Mr DeLizza's book Memoirs of a Fashion Jewelry Manufacturer on page 140 and dates them to 1979. Another design they did was to cage rhinestones in sea life castings.  They also did some sea turtle designs with plastic cabochons and heat formed plastic centers.

Juliana Heat Formed Plastic Jewelry from Mr DeLizza's Collection

In the 1971-1973 Chapter of Mr DeLizza's book he speaks of a plastics manufacturer, Augie Pisano. He made plastic pieces for the garment industry, belt manufacturers and shoe buckle ornaments sellers.  He had two basic colors that he could brush with paint to make other colors.  He would heat the shapes of plastic in hot water and then kick out the shapes on foot presses.  They did a ton of business together for just a year but unfortunately he died and his widow just could not carry on the business.  These are some of the designs they did during this time.

These designs shown here and many more can be purchased in my store: https://www.ourvintagerosejewelry.com/shop/MrDeLizza/18.

Juliana Ball and Other Chaining From Mr DeLizza's Collection

Millefiori Ball Chain Set
Ball chain designs were a staple for Juliana (DeLizza and Elster) starting in 1970.  As Mr DeLizza says in his book on page 96. "We used a tremendous amount of ball chain". On the next page he then tells a funny story about getting a large amount of ball chain from someone who was trying to get rid of it. Mr DeLizza did not let him know he was using so much if it and really wanted it so got a very good deal on it. In this factory group I have also included designs using other types of chains including dot dash chain, and curb chain.
Red/Gold Stone Ball Chain Set
This factory grouping contains many items I had never seen before.  Some of my favorites are the fabulous ball chain and bead millefiori set. The wonderful large red/gold stone set with accenting small ball chain and the adorable rhinestone bee ball chain bracelet and earring set.

Juliana Elephant Jewelry From Mr DeLizza's Collection

Elephant with a Spur
Elephant Only
You are reading the title and thinking, I know all about the elephant jewelry made by Juliana (DeLizza and Elster).  It was those big puppet figural pendants.  Well you would be wrong.  Those are not the only elephant designs D&E did.  The jewelry from Mr DeLizza's personal collection has a fabulous variety of these other elephants designed and made by DeLizza and Elster aka Juliana. Shown are the variations they did on this elephant design. These designs came in a wide variety of colors with many variations in the accent stones and chaining.
